Profile

Prior to training as a counsellor and a coach, I spent over 20 years in business - my experience includes sales and marketing management, new business development and marketing consultancy. A number of senior management positions held in the music, publishing and design industries as well as the experience of running my own business enable me to offer my clients an in-depth understanding of many issues along with a pragmatic, solution-focused approach.

jane picAs a counsellor, I work in private practice with clients of all ages and background. I have significant experience working with young adults both as a counsellor and group facilitator with the University of Cambridge. Also under my remit, was the University's Peer Support scheme which I coordinated for three years providing a comprehensive training programme and the facilitation of reflective practice sessions. I also work in a school offering individual counselling as well as workshops and life skills training.

I am committed to the collaborative legal process and as a Family Consultant, I work with family lawyers and independent financial consultants, as part of an interdisciplinary team, to help couples and their families negotiate their way through separation or divorce.

My work with organisations includes the provision of training with specific expertise in listening and communication skills. I have coached a number of individuals focusing on a wide range of professional development issues.

Approach

My approach is simple - my work is all about the relationship - whether that’s when I’m working with a senior manager on leadership skills, with a couple going through a divorce or with a student struggling with depression. Successful outcomes are only possible when the relationship and chemistry between client and consultant, counsellor or coach are sound. Only then can professional and personal awareness be developed. Ultimately, the increase in awareness leads to greater acceptance of a situation, improved communication, results and enhanced performance, to the benefit of the individual, family or organisation.

My goal is to guide people to achieve their full potential and I enjoy drawing out the best in others. The role is facilitative, enabling clients to find their own answers in a supportive but sometimes challenging environment. When working with couples or groups, I believe that an ability to identify the dynamics is essential. I am able to listen and hear people at a deep level, to pick up the threads that emerge and weave them together or find a way of addressing difficult issues that remain unspoken. This is particularly valuable in my work as a family consultant.

I believe in openness, honesty and authenticity and bring energy, warmth and frankness to my client relationships. I have a particular interest in helping my clients improve their own relationships through exploring the ways in which they communicate – be that as a couple, within the family, with friends or in the workplace.
